The traditional resume is dead (was it ever not dead?)
Or at least, resumes now are all so AI-polished now that you can't really trust them.
And that's only the start of new hiring challenges in the age of AI.
I recently recorded a quick conversation with my friend Noel Andrews from JobRack about how AI is completely breaking the traditional hiring process. He sees a massive volume of applicants and has practically cracked the code on how to filter and hire truly AI-native talent.
If you're thinking about adding more AI-fluent roles to your company, I highly encourage you to give our conversation a watch (put it on 2x speed!).
But to save you some time right now, here are a few useful takeaways Noel from the conversation:
1. Deploy a "Killer Question": Add one highly specific, role-based question to your application that candidates can't easily fake with a basic ChatGPT prompt. If the answer isn't great, you can instantly disqualify them without reading pages of fluff.
2. Ask candidates how they used AI to apply: Stop discouraging AI in applications. Instead, ask them directly how they used it. Their answer will tell you immediately if they are just blindly copy-pasting or if they are genuinely resourceful and agentic.
3. Conduct live screen-share tests: The best way to test AI skills is to give a candidate an impossible task, give them 10 minutes, and ask them to share their screen while they work. You get to watch exactly how they think and what tools they juggle in real-time.
4. Filter out the deepfakes: People are literally using AI teleprompters and video avatars in live interviews. Noel's quick trick to catch a fake avatar is to ask the candidate to pass their hand in front of their face to see if the video glitches.
